Journal Buddies by Jill Schoenberg Review
I am very excited to share a great journal for kids to help build self esteem, confidence, creativity and kindness.
First let me tell you about my 3rd grade son who helped me with this review, He is a sweet, thoughtful child who doesn't like to share his feelings or talk about himself. Of course as a mother I want him to talk to me and feel comfortable sharing his feelings and his life. I know as children get older they start to keep their life to themselves, but I want to try to keep an open relationship with my children ,as I know many of you do to. So when I came across Journal buddies and read what it was all about I couldn't wait to try it out.
The concept of journal buddies is to focus on excellence. An analogy used in the journal that I liked stated this: "Have you ever looked through a magnifying glass? ....Was it easier to see? Were the details more obvious? You are like that- You're the magnifying glass. Whatever you focus on grows bigger!" So throughout this journal focusing on your child's good traits and qualities and them pointing out good qualities in their buddies will encourage them to focus on and magnify the good traits in themselves and others.
This Journal is a shared and interactive Journal. It is completed with the help of others. "Their Buddies" (This can be a family member a friend, aunt, uncle etc.) This was wonderful for me and my son. He has enjoyed coming to me to show me his creative journaling and I can tell he enjoys the compliments he has received from "his buddies". Included in the journal are many ideas for creative journaling which will make this journal one of a kind and make it fun for you and your child to share together. Journals are usually something you write alone and very personal so being able to share this activity together has helped my son share more with me already. My son is still working on completing his journal entries but what he has completed he has really enjoyed. In fact he comes to me with his journal in hand telling me he wants to do another page. I really like Journal buddies.
This book was a finalist in the Mom's Choice Awards from The Just For Mom Foundation. Journal buddies is available for boys and girls. We reviewed Journal buddies for boys.
